Goals in Common

The Neighborhood Development Center’s objectives for the Global Marketplace track closely with the MCW Partnership’s broader economic development vision for the Lake Street Corridor.

1. Develop wealth and income of community members.
NDC projects the 75 shops and restaurants in the Global Marketplace will create up to 400 new jobs beyond the owners’. These will largely be filled by community residents.

2. Stimulate neighborhood and commercial corridor revitalization.
The Global Marketplace is planned as a local and regional draw that will benefit surrounding businesses as well.

3. Build capacity of community-based organizations.
Characteristic of NDC’s approach, the Global Marketplace will come together as a working and/or investment partnership of many groups ranging in capacity from neighborhood associations to international foundations.

4. Social/cultural integration.
The Global Marketplace will become a common intersection for people of all ethnicities and walks of life.

5. Community space.
The Global Marketplace is being designed with the understanding that it will be one of the few interior gathering spaces in the immediate area.
